Make Your Own Gift Card Holder! - Step By Step Tutorial

Hi there everyone!

Hope those of you who are celebrating mothers day today are having a lovely one!

In todays step by step tutorial I am going to show you how to make your own personalised gift card holder.

I love making these for birthdays or christmas as it adds such a lovely personal touch to a gift. I've even put money in them! You can cater this to anyone or any occasion and theres so much to experiment with.

Click 'Read more' and lets begin!

What you will need:
- Coloured card stock cut into two pieces, one cut at 10" x 4 1/4" and one 9 1/4" x 1" (I prefer having the same colour with this but you can definitely used two different colours)
- Designer paper for the insde cut at 4" x 1 3/4", 4" x 2 3/4", 4" x 2 3/4", 4"x 3/4", 4" x 3/4" - I used the Stampin Up! DSP Brights collection in Bermuda Bay, it's double sided so I used one side for the inside and one for the outside
- Designer paper for the outside 4" x 1 3/4", 4" x 2 3/4",  4" x 2 3/4"
- Small piece of white card card stock
- Scoring board
- Paper cutter
- Tape glider
- Double sided tape
- Ribbon
- Two punches - I used two different Stampin Up! labels punches
- Stamp - I used one from Stampin Up! Label Love
- Ink - I used Stampin Up! Bermuda Bay

Steps

1) First thing you will need to do is cut your coloured card stock at 10" x 4 1/4" then place the card on a scoring board - long side at the top - and score at 3", 4",  5" and 8". Set aside whats left as you will be using this later
2) Take your first chosen piece of designer paper - that you want to be on the inside - and cut five pieces. One piece 4" x 1 3/4", two pieces 4" 2 3/4" and two pieces 4" x 3/4"
3) Take your second chosen piece of designer paper - that you want to be on the outside - and cut three pieces - one piece 4" x 1 3/4" and two pieces 4" x 2 3/4"
4) Cut a small piece of white card stock, this only needs to be big enough to punch out a small stamp

(TIP: For the two pieces at 4" x 3/4" on the inside you could use a third piece of designer paper as this is the part where your gift card will slot in. Also, for the inside you could use a piece of white coloured card stock on the bottom so you could write a small message - one of the 4" x 2 3/4" ones)

5) Now lets work on the inside first, turn the paper so the short sides are at the top and bottom and there are two panels above the two smallest panels. With the card stock you cut for the inside stick down the 4" x 1 3/4" first, then 4" x 2 3/4", then the two 4" x 3/4" and finally the other 4" x 2 3/4" piece. You could now reinforce your scorelines, pinch together the two smaller panels so they pop up and fold the other two panels into the inside of the holder

It should now look something like this

6) Now flip over your holder and stick the 4" x 1 3/4" first then the two 4" x 2 3/4" pieces. Leave the two small panels blank. If you are using a pattern paper which has to be certain way or has writing on it, make sure you stick the 4" x 1 3/4" upside down to the other two so when you close it all together it will be the right way up

7) Now with the holder - outside on top - place some double sided tape on one of the small panels, just on the top and sides, then turn upside down and pinch together. Make sure you don't put any tape across the score line

8) You will now need to shave off the card stock on top of the two small panels to allow your gift card to slot in. You can see by the picture below I have taken off an extremely small amount

9) Now lets make the band to go around your holder. Take the leftover card stock from step one and cut it at 9 1/4" x 1"

10) Close up your holder and place in the center of the card from step 9. You will now fold up the two edges

11) Place some tape on one of the ends and stick together. You will want to keep this fairly lose or you will struggle to get the band on and off the gift card holder

12) Next you will stamp your chosen stamp onto a piece of white card stock. Then using the Stampin Up! small label punch out your stamp. Then using the same coloured card stock at the band cut out a slightly bigger label

13) I saw a video on youtube where someone had made one of these and they also added ribbon to their band. I loved the effect this gave to I decided to add a small ribbon around mine. Just place some tape around the band with a tape glider and adhere the ribbon to it. Then stick you stamped card stock onto the bigger piece of card from step 12 and stick to the centre of the band

Fantastic! You now have your own unique gift card holder! You don't have the limited choice of mostly plain coloured holders from the shops, you can make absolutely any design you would like and would suit your loved one.

Whats also amazing about this is that you could also make them a matching card to go along with it.

There are so many different ways to play around with these, using different coloured designer paper for different panels, the possibilities are endless. Making these are so quick and easy too so they are ideal if you have a lot of people to give gifts to. Remember, you don't just have to use these for gift cards, you can put money in them or even something like a key if you are asking someone to move in with you. Be creative!
